RACISM

It's something I cannot, and will not, stand for. It's disgusting. Really.

I think it sprouts from the mentality that a race is superior than another. And let me just clear the air: that's not true. No race should be put on a pedestal; no race is worth any less than another. Nobody should be treated any differently because of where they come from. Nobody should be in the position to form any premature ideas of an individual because of their ethnicity or nationality. Nobody should feel any less worthy because of ignorant people.

I am literally ashamed when I see/hear/know of Malaysians who show prejudice to those who are different from us. In my opinion, it occurs due to lack of education and exposure to other cultures. It's even more sad when people don't even realize what they do!

See, the truth of the matter is, we influence others, just as others influence us. This means that we are all educators. We can all be role models! We have the responsibility to open as many people's minds as possible because well, people sort of rule this world. So theoretically, more open-minded people means less ignorant children. Less ignorant children means better future. Better future means world peace! Okay, maybe it's not that easy.... but I hope you can see how important education, acceptance and tolerance is, and how one thing can lead to another, therefore we should try to make changes for the better, not for the worse.

Someone please fix that broken recordJuly 16, 2010
Okay, I've finally snapped out of my emo reverie. I think it started the day Brother Bear left, which also happened to be the last day I got to see most of my family before they flew back to Jakarta. Nothing was going right. But it was actually a matter of my own perception. See, I was constantly bringing myself down by focusing on everything I felt was slipping away... and I forgot about all the things that I still have.

So as of now, I'm going to ignore what I don't like and move on. I'm a sucker for dwelling on things I should let go, so this is sort of a big deal for me :P I hate when something in the back of my mind is keeping me from being happy because it makes me cranky, and nobody likes that. Moods are contagious. Happiness spreads like warmth, just like bad moods bring down people around you. You wouldn't want others to feel that would you?

Sonnet 18
by William Shakespeare

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

The Mayonnaise Jar and CoffeeJuly 8, 2010
When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions--and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else--the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first--the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

:)

P.S. I didn't write this. It can be found on various websites if you search "the mayonnaise jar" into Google. I just wanted to share this lovely story with you and help spread the message.
